Earlier this year, we brought you the definitive list of male newsmen with the best hair. Now it’s the ladies’ turn! However, we decided to focus on women who are letting their hair go “au nat-u-rel!”
For too long, African-American women have gone to extreme lengths to change their hair’s natural look and feel. With an increase of awesome natural hair products available to women and a wave of women deciding to show off their natural locks, it’s no surprise that the natural hair “trend” has become a full-blown movement! This year, more and more female newscasters are showcasing their natural hair on the national air! And we couldn’t be happier about it. While we are all for dying, cutting, straightening, blowing, and doing whatever it is you need to do for YOU to be happy with YOUR hair – there is something to be said about a woman not only owning but ROCKIN’ her natural curls!
This list contains our top picks of beautiful, talented, and inspiring women in the news wearing their natural hair!

The 10 Top News Women Who Rock Their Natural Hair
1. Tamron Hall, NBC’s Today Show
Yeah, yeah, yeah…America loves Tamron Hall. She is an anchor for NBC News, hosts a little show called “NewsNation,” and co-anchors Today’s Take. Oh, and she has an Emmy. Okay, she’s basically the woman that Beyonce idolizes.
On Friday, June 27th, 2014, Tamron Hall got even better. She rocked her natural hair on national television! People freaked out. And for a good reason.
I mean, how cute does the up-and-coming queen of morning television look? Even Carson Daily couldn’t handle how much Twitter was blowing up about this Natural Hair Goddess! This is a big deal, ladies! Tweet T-Hall some love, why don’t ya?
2. Rochelle Ritchie, WJZ Baltimore
Rochelle Ritchie is a go-getter. She started her career in Florida – shooting, writing, and editing all her own stories. It wasn’t long after that, CBS in Baltimore picked up this Natural Princess and put her on-air! While she hasn’t always rocked her natural follicles, now that she is, we love it! We are living for Ritchie’s beautiful natural hair!
And by the way, deciding to wear your hair the way God intended doesn’t mean you don’t have options when it comes to styling. Wear it big! Braid it down! Get creative. Natural hair is a blank canvas, and you are the artist. Perhaps nobody knows that or does that better than Rochelle Ritchie!
In fact, when Ritchie decided to go natural for TV, she documented part of that process in the story below. She also discusses the physical and emotional damage that can happen to women who overuse relaxers, weaves, and extensions. She should know. She used to be one of them. 4. Pam McKelvy, WMC
We love Pam McKelvy for many reasons. She’s an incredible journalist, she’s a fighter, and she’s a winner. In 2012, doctors diagnosed her with breast cancer. Ever-resilient, Pam began wearing a wig after she lost her hair through chemotherapy. In 2014, she decided to ditch the wig and showcase her gorgeous, natural hair! Bravo!
“A woman’s relationship with her hair is sacred. Her hair is her crown of glory. And for women in TV, it is intensified. As you know, I lost my hair after chemo and I’ve been wearing a wig since this past March. Well, today, I am taking it off for good. This is a milestone, blessed experience for me.” – Pam McKelvy
Pam, we think you look gorgeous! We’re proud of you and happy you decided to embrace your natural look. You are the model of a survivor. Keep it up, girl!
5. Stephanie Satchell
The only thing outshining Stephanie Satchell’s natural hair is her gorgeous smile! I mean, look at those pearly whites! While Stephanie left the news game earlier in the year, her six years as a reporter and anchor for Good Morning Charlottesville allowed viewers to watch great journalism and great hair! However, she wasn’t always showcasing her natural locks.
After dealing with breakage and the expense of relaxers, Satchell decided to go natural! According to Curly Nikki, a popular hair blogger, Satchell didn’t feel like herself with chemically treated hair. So, she made the switch to go natural and has been loving it ever since!
The picture on your left is Satchell’s first day anchoring with her gorgeous natural hair! Good for you, girl!
Tell Stephanie how much you love her locks!

She is an absolute delight, and we’re honored to have her on our list of the top newswomen who are rocking their natural hair!
7. Monica Kaufman Pearson, WSB Atlanta
Monica Pearson is Atlanta royalty. Seriously. Although she retired from the news game on July 25th, 2012, she left a 37-year legacy that made her the ultimate Queen of the South! She is a mother, an award-winning journalist, breast cancer survivor, and rocker of natural hair!
In Atlanta, she is known for always changing her hair and calls it “an accessory.” Although she has done pretty much every imaginable thing you can do to your hair, recently, she has been seen almost entirely with her natural hair. When we e-mailed Monica to inform her she made our list, she replied by saying, “Hi, right now I have my hair braided and am wearing a white page boy wig.” We had no idea what a “white page boy wig” was, so we looked it up. Apparently, they look something like this.
She truly showcases a world-class woman and the fact that the natural hair movement is in full swing. We love you, Monica, and Atlanta TV misses you.
Send the Queen of ATL TV some love!

This woman needs no introduction. You know her as the bright, bubbly, optimistic, and vivacious woman who greets you every morning on Good Morning America.
Fun Fact: She was also a sportscaster on ESPN for 15 years! She is a breast cancer survivor and author of the book Everybody’s Got Something.
Since growing back her hair after cancer treatment, she has showcased her natural curls and lovely locks. We’re not alone in loving the all-natural Robin. Fans, viewers, and bloggers have all made it known that the natural look is a welcome change from the damaged, pulled, and dyed hair being abused by relaxers and expensive styling procedures.
Thank you, Robin, for giving so many women hope and inspiration!
9. Rhonda Lee, Weather Nation
Rhonda Lee has had quite the journey with her natural hair. In fact, she was reportedly fired after defending herself (and her natural hair) to a viewer after he commented on the station’s Facebook page saying, “…she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair. I’m not sure if she is a cancer patient.” The viewer continued to share his “concerns” about Rhonda’s hair.
Who does this guy think he is? Rhonda, your hair is awesome, and we love you for sticking up for yourself!
Rhonda Lee’s hair could probably make it rain in the club, but she will definitely be able to tell you when it will rain outside. As a Meteorologist at WeatherNationTv.com, Rhonda can now be seen on television coast-to-coast – not just in one small town. WeatherNation airs on some of the biggest TV providers like DirecTV, Comcast, TimeWarner, and Verizon. Success is always the best response to your “haters,” right Rhonda!? Keep wearing that beautiful natural hair, and keep sticking up for yourself! (That goes for ALL the ladies!)
