#3. Remington S5500 Digital AntiStatic Flat Iron with Floating Ceramic Plates
Best Feature: The Anti-Static Technology
Frizzy hair, dry hair, hair that doesn’t look nice.
That’s one of the things that this flat iron promises: anti-static technology. If you’ve been having many problems with frizzy hair, that in and of itself will probably make this flat iron appealing.
Still, this hair straightener isn’t for everybody.
The people who like this flat iron really like this flat iron.
The people who don’t really really don’t.
This Thing Doesn’t Take Long to Heat Up, And When It Heats Up It Gets Hot!
There are a lot of reasons to recommend this flat iron.
For one thing, it doesn’t take long to heat up. You can get started in just thirty seconds, which is a big plus when you’re running late and need to get out the door as quickly as you can.
It also gets scorching: 410 degrees, which is definitely the sort of temperature you could expect if you went to a salon. Paired with the fact that it has a swivel cord, the high temperature clarifies that this flat iron was designed with salon-level quality in mind.
That said, the heat comes with a serious disadvantage – the flat iron gives off a burning smell from pretty much the moment it gets turned on.
If you’re careful and you know what you’re doing, you should be able to avoid burnt hair. Still, you must actually know what you’re doing when you use this flat iron. Otherwise, you’ll end up with burnt hair. Nobody’s got time for that!
On the bright side, The Remington S5500 Flat Iron has an automatic shut-off. So even if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re still not likely to burn the house down, which is nice.
The Remington S5500 Flat Iron Has Lots of Nice Features
After the anti-static technology, the Remington S5500’s nicest feature is probably its long ceramic plates. The plates are really good at giving hair that silky smooth style that so many of us are going after.
Plus, one of the plates is floating, which means it’s way less likely to tug on your hair.
Who’s Having All These Problems?
One important thing to note is that almost all the complaints about the Remington S5500 are coming from white people. By all accounts, this flat iron works great for black hair.
If you’re looking to avoid frizzy hair, it might be worth it.
And here’s the bottom line. The Remington S5500 comes with a two-year warranty, so if it really doesn’t do the job it’s supposed to, you can return it.
But if you want to know what our favorite hair straightener was? The flat iron that’s so good it hurts? Well, you’ll have to keep reading our list.
#2 Xtava Professional Infrared Flat Iron
Tourmaline Ceramic Plates, Silk Edition, Black
The Xtava Professional Infrared Flat Iron is the most high-tech hair straightener out there today.
We may not have flying cars yet, but the future has definitely arrived.
The Xtava isn’t like all the other flat irons, no way.
It wasn’t happy with the normal way of doing things — using electricity as a heat source. Oh no.
Instead, it uses infrared rays to heat your hair. This means that you’re not going to have to deal with that awful burning smell, unlike some of the other hair straighteners out there. Also, infrared technology means that it’s way harder to burn your hair, which is a plus.
It’s also a good thing that it’s hard to burn your hair because this flat iron can get hot. It can go from between 265 to 445 degrees Fahrenheit.
It’s Nice That The Flat Iron is Fancy, But You Want To Know If It Works
Of course, the fancy technology doesn’t really mean anything if it doesn’t do the job it’s supposed to do. Luckily, that’s not a problem here.
Basically, everyone who used the Xtava Infrared Flat Iron loved it. It works great on most hair types, and people especially loved the way infrared technology protected their hair from damage.
The one big problem was that it was both big and a little on the heavier side. This means that it works best for people who don’t have short hair. If you have short hair, it’s just slightly more difficult to maneuver the iron properly.
This Hair Straightener Packs a Punch
Seriously, the Xtava Professional Infrared Flat Iron is heavy.
That’s probably the first detail that jumps out when you get a hold of the product.
We here at Get Good Head are firmly anti-murder, but if you were going to wield a hair straightener as a weapon, this would probably be the one.
This mostly notable in case you want to travel with your hair straightener. It’s not crazy heavy, but it is one of the heavier hair straighteners out there.
The Xtava Professional Infrared Iron May Be In the Top Three, But That Doesn’t Make it Number One.
The Xtava Professional Infrared Iron is good, really good.
If you’re a technophile — someone who likes trying the state-of-the-art stuff, someone who likes playing with all the newest gadgets — then the Xtava might be for you.
Still, despite its cool features, the Xtava is not our favorite straightener. For that, you’ll have to keep reading.
#1 HSI Professional Ceramic Tourmaline Ionic Flat Iron
Glove, Pouch and Travel Size Argan Oil Leave-in Hair Treatment
Some people don’t want to have the same hairstyle day after day.
Different moods and occasions, after all, call for different sorts of hair.
One day you might wake up looking for the elegant simplicity of straight hair — something smooth that a special someone can run their fingers through.
But then the next day, you might want something a bit more wild, something a bit — dare we say it — kinky.
If all of that describes you, then we’ve got good news for you: The Professional HSI Flat Iron is a fantastically versatile flat iron. It’s awesome because it doesn’t just straighten hair.
Oh, no. That’s not awesome enough. They didn’t just stop there.
Instead, the iron lets you straighten, curl, AND flip your hair. Ugh. Too good.
But really, you want to know if it straightens hair well. Of course, versatility is nice, but it’s not the only thing to judge a hair straightener on. Surprisingly, there’s a lot involved when it comes to finding the right hair straightener.
You’ve got to figure out if the temperature will be too hot or not hot enough. Then you’ve got to wonder if it’s going to make all those frizzy ends even worse. There are so many bad hair straighteners on the market, and they can absolutely ruin your look.
So here comes the big question: how well does the Professional HSI Flat Iron straighten hair? You’ll like the answer.
The Professional HSI Flat Iron is a GREAT hair straightener.
So many people love this flat iron, and with good reason. It doesn’t suck! Which is another way of saying that it’s really, really great.
It lets you set the temperature from anywhere between 140° to 410° Fahrenheit. So no matter what type of hair you have, you should be able to avoid that awful hair-burning smell.
It’s Also Easy to Use
Honestly, the easy-to-use thing is important for me personally because I’m really good at doing things badly. I really appreciate how the Professional HSI Flat Iron feels like it was designed for my level of incompetence.
It’s got ceramic plates that are smooth and therefore go through my hair pretty easily. The cord has a built-in circuit breaker, which means it’s hard to do something too dumb and regrettable.
I also love the heat-resistant glove it comes with. Because honestly, I burn myself with these things all the time, and the glove at least makes it much harder to do so.
There’s also the fact that it comes with Argan Oil hair treatment. That’s another big plus, just because that stuff always makes my hair look so much better than it usually does.
Seriously, The Professional HSI Flat Iron is Amazing
Long story short, there’s really not much to complain about it when it comes to this product. It’s good, it’s versatile, and it gets the job done.
It’s Important to Find the Right Hair Straightener for You
At the end of the day, you have to take a lot of factors into account when you are trying to decide which hair straightener is right for you.
There are so many different types of hair. And each type of hair is going to react differently to different hair care products.
So you have to know what you’re looking for from a flat iron.
Do you want something that’ll be gentle with your hair? Something that protects against frizziness? Do you want something that heats up quickly? Do you want something easy to use? Do you want something that comes with all the right accessories: glove, oil, and so on?
(Side note: make sure you are using a conditioner that is right for your hair to help the dryer work its magic even more!)
Even once you’ve figured all that out, you’re not quite done because nothing can replace actually trying out the product.
Sure, the Remington S5500 might sound like what you’re looking for. You might really like the idea of anti-static technology. And yeah, the Professional HSI is our favorite straightener on the market today. But when you actually try the product, does it feel good? Does it make your hair look good?
None of the features really matter if the product doesn’t interact with your hair well. None of our opinions matter if the straightener doesn’t make your hair look good.
For this reason, we encourage you to get out there and try whichever hair straightener sounds the best to you. Hopefully, our list has helped you determine which hair straightener you want to try out first.
